Our model understands the distinct seasonal patterns across India, from the Southwest Monsoon that brings heavy rainfall to most of the country, to the Northeast Monsoon that affects Tamil Nadu and parts of Andhra Pradesh.
India's climate is dominated by the monsoon system, which brings about 80% of the country's annual rainfall during the four-month period from June to September.
The Southwest Monsoon begins in Kerala in early June and gradually advances northward, covering the entire country by mid-July. The retreat begins in September and continues through October.
Rainfall distribution across India varies dramatically. The northeastern states and the western coast receive heavy rainfall (often exceeding 3,000mm annually), while western Rajasthan receives minimal precipitation (less than 500mm annually).
These regional variations are captured in our dataset through the 36 meteorological subdivisions, allowing our model to provide localized predictions.
